What is a Grey Import? Why should I avoid them?
Grey imports are handsets brought into the European and US markets from the Far East. They are Designed to be sold and operated in their domestic markets such as China, India, Thailand and Malaysia. Grey imports often look very similar to legitimate Western specification handsets however are very different. They are usually locked to operate only with the network operators who provided them. Unlocking handsets from rare manufacturers such as Haier are both problematic and costly. Furthermore unlocking handsets is in some duristrictions is illegal and may invalidate any warranty the handset may have.
With particular reference to the Haier Elegance, the internal specifications of grey imports are substantially different. Firstly they only operate a dual-band service. This means that the handset will connect to fewer GSM signals and not only making use in your home country risky but substantially limits the handsets international roaming capabilities. Secondly, grey import handsets do not have Bluetooth functionality. This means that wireless headsets and in-car hands free units will be unable to connect to them. Finally and most importantly, grey imports are in no way supported by Haier or HaierMobiles.com and carry no rights for any warranty or support request.
Always be sure to buy legitimate Western specification handsets from reputable dealers and distributers. If in any doubt don't hesitate to get in touch. We’re the worlds only Haier mobile specialist and will do out best to answer any related queries.
Is the Haier Black Pearl or Haier M600 the same as the Haier Elegance?
The Haier Elegance is also known as the Haier Black Pearl. It should not however be referred to as the Haier M600. The Haier M600 is a different handset from Haier’s non-exclusive mainrange and is not retailed by HaierMobiles.com - Accessories advertised for the Haier M600 will not be compatible with the Haier Elegance. Retailers offering the Haier M600 handset are offering a different model to the Haier Elegance featured on this website. The M600 is not a grey import Haier Elegance, it is an entirely different model.
Does the Haier Elegance have a laser pointer?
The Haier Elegance does not include a laser pointing device, this was a feature of the now discontinued P5 and P6 models. Due to EU standard regulations on the retail of laser equipment in the EU and the requirement to keep the Haier Elegance’s small and light form factor, the decision was bade not to equip Haier the Elegance with such a device.
What kind of chargers will my Haier Elegance come with?
Like the P7 Pen Phone, the Haier Elegance charges through a standard mini-USB connector. This means that it will be compatible with third party chargers including USB chargers for personal computers and laptops. The Elegance also ships with 2 pin US mains charger. If you intend to use the P7 mains charger in the United Kingdom, you will need to purchase a mains adaptor to convert the 2 pin plug into a 3 pin standard plug. UK adaptors can be found on the high street for around 99p
Can I use an adaptor that says its for shavers only?
While you should always obey all instructions on any electrical appliances or adaptors you purchase, we have found that any standard ‘shaver to 3 pin’ adaptor with 1 amp fuse will charge the Elegance adequately. However this advice is given from our personal experience only and we can not be responsible for any damage that occurs to you or your phone arising from using an adaptor other than a bona-fide USA to UK travel adaptor. If in doubt you should always seek the advise of an electrician.
How do I transfer music to my Haier Black pear?
The Haier Elegance comes included with 128MB of internal memory. This should normally be enough for around one albums worth of music. Music can be transferred onto the internal memory with a standard USB to mini-USB cable. We do advise that you use a USB 2.0 cable if your computer supports it as this will greatly speed up transfer times. Furthermore we also advice purchasing an inexpensive Micro-SD memory card and placing it in the slot provided (underneath the SIM). This will allow the expansion of storage for music and data up to 1GB. Micro-SD memory cards can be filled with data directly from PC’s with supporting readers via a SD to micro-SD adaptor. These normally ship free with micro-SD cards.
Will my Haier Elegance work abroad?
Yes. The Haier Elegance is a tri band mobile phone operating on the GSM 900/1800/1900 networks. This means that you will have no problems owning and operating your phone in nearly all countries in the world (subject to your network coverage) Unlike the Haier P5 & P6, the Haier Elegance WILL work in America and all countries operating on the GSM 1900 networks.
Will my Haier Elegance work on the THREE networks?
While technically the Haier Elegance runs on the GSM900/1800/1900 frequencies, it will also wok on the new 3G THREE network (GSM2100) - Customers are strongly advised to run the Haier Elegance on this network under their own discretion. As THREE are not retailing the Haier Elegance they have the ability to block IMEI numbers not on their approved lists. (NB: This only applies to THREE, and not to other UK networks)
