Creating a phone to beat a world first class beater, mould breaker and trend setter (the Haier P5) is no easy feat, but Haier ceased the production of the P5 and brought the world the P6. The aptly named P6 was for all extents and purposes, the sequel, and addressed issues that were raised with the P5. Namely the introduction of a class 2 laser pointer which could be sold in the EU region.

The P6 shared much of the P5’s internal electronics and the firmware (menu layouts etc…) was again, the same. Haier did however very wisely choose to give the P6 a fully removable battery which greatly sped up the process of phone repair where the battery was at fault. Finally, a built in speakerphone allowed users to obtain further benefit without using a traditional ‘wired’ hands free unit.

It is clear then that the Haier P6 was built for the international businessperson. Its design, only fractionally larger, but more conservative without angled buttons. The P6 did however have the solidity and build quality that reviews said much resembled a luxury German car. The chunky chrome laser surround and rubberised edging making the P6 a phone that shouldn’t be taken at face value.

The P6 has of course stopped being manufactured, however the P6 was the only phone that could be used to wipe a smug grin off the face of a P5 owner. Incidentally, Haier planned to announce three colour options (silver, graphite and champagne) when launching the P6, but only two ever shipped. The champagne coloured handset is today highly sought after and can command a price up to two times that of a standard P6.
