Reviews - Altec Lansing 2100 Speakers - Stylish 2.1 PC Speaker System "Throw away your 'plasticy' speakers and invest in a pair of classy, good-looking 2.1 speakers for your pc. Superior build and sound quality" So you enjoy gaming, you have a few mp3's on your computer but the plastic unbranded speakers sitting either side of your beige monitor have started to disintegrate. Sure you could by another pair of plastic-trash for a few pounds and chances are they will make the noises you want to hear when you plug them in, but ask yourself this: do they really make the noises that you want to hear? Most probably not. What you want is a nice set of speakers that wont cost the earth but look like they do. You want to treat yourself and buy something that sounds a little more crisp and less muffled. Altec Lansing has come up trumps with their 2100 speaker system. In short, it's a clean cut, good looking, small set of 2.1 speakers with an almost eerie sound quality; - that is, the sound that comes out from these little silver poles with black circles in them is remarkably crisp. Call us mad but when we listened to our hefty 5.1 speaker system the sound seemed almost muffled. Were not criticizing our beloved 5.1's but we think that the Altec's sound has something to do with is aeronautic looks… Its brushed sliver stands with exposed "tweeters" give you the impression that the sound is shooting straight out at you. Yes, we are crazy and need to be institutionalised but its true. You look at the crisp design of the system and think that the sound matches… Which indeed it does, the sound quality from a set of tiny 2.1's is certainly nothing to be sniggered at. A very good blend… much like a fine coffee… flavour depth and a little sprinkling of coco-dust with a mint on the side *ahem* The only thing that annoyed us about the Altec 2100's was its volume control; a wired remote control sitting on a silver stand. This seems like design for the sake of design, quite frankly why would you need to move the remote from its cradle and even if you did, its wired so no roaming for you. Another niggling factor that should have been considered a little better is the volume control itself. It uses a digital method (i.e. one button for up and one for down) this has the disadvantage of not actually knowing what the volume is set to at any particular point. An actual volume dial would have been nice, but you shouldn't base your decision on this… Ditch your unbranded plastic excuses for speakers and buy these small stylish excuses for Gods. You wont be sorry, if only to hear the trademark windows 'ping' in all its acoustic glory. ©2003 Lordowner Network. No Unauthorized Reproduction Without Argement |
